Podcast 2

Posted by Richard Goodwin on 18:14, 8/8/2005 | , , , , , , , , , ,

Paul Vigay as a babyPodcast 2 is now ready - a companion piece to the first, so not quite as long (17:20), but it does come with added telephonic communications.
  • Update: what we've found out about RISC OS software
  • News: new IYONIX cases; Spellings Computer Services is 10; RiScript 5; Risc World DVD; new Rage PCI software; Microdigital
  • Features: Acorn tat; Simon Challands talks about Elite
  • Letters: developers on RISC OS, and using BASIC
  • Misc: how to get in touch; Virtual Vigay goes on strike
  • Music: more music by Jason Tribbeck
I've encoded it at an even lower rate (which isn't kind to Jason's music - sorry Jase!) and then did a super-duper low rate version for people on dialup.

I have to say I have enjoyed listening to these podcasts and hope to hear more of them in the future. However.... The latest podcast I thought was encoded at too low a bitrate. It sounded too scratchy compared to the previous one! Other than that, I quite like it :)

I've got 2 Acorn mugs (use them regularly), and had the MBNA/Acorn credit card (now cancelled; it was too expensive). The thing that amused me is 3 years after Acorn's demise, they renewed it - and it still had the Acorn logo on it. I've also got a couple of ART mouse mats.

Anyway, bit of a giggle - nice one!

Note: The Equinox music is the "CD release" version of the music, and is the title/shop music. There's a different tune for the game.

It sounds grim under QuickTime, so er, don't use it to listen to it.

As for the csa.games debate, that had little to do with BASIC versus C, more to do with someone who simply shouldn't have been giving advice. As was noted in the podcast, there are situations where either might be appropriate.

I do hate the sound of my voice, and thanks for the thanks :-/

Linking my piece and the memorabilia, I would just loved to have had one of those original Elite competition insignia pins. If anyone knows of one going anywhere...

I'm sure Orpheus terms and conditions forbids the use of embarrassing podcasts..... ;)
Having said that, I was laughing so much listening to podcast2 I might temporarily overlook TIBs excessive use of bandwidth! :D

Paul Vigay prefers to remain incognito... simply so that he can track crop circles without being recognised.
Yeah, right ;)

Hope the sound isn't too bad - I did encode it at a lower rate this time out so it'd be quicker to download, but it sounded OK when I played it back. But then I have better earphones this time out (due to needing a better mic). However, the difference in sound might be due to various sound problems we had during the recording.

We're still learning, so no doubt there's plenty of room for improvement. Let us know!

In case anyone thought I sounded a bit Elite obsessed, remember I'm not the podcast contributor who was making a Cobra MkIII out of steel! (because I don't know anything about metalwork).

Thoroughly enjoyed that -- wasn't expecting podcast number 2 to appear so soon. Despite being on dialup, I'd be prepared to dload ~12MB or so for this :-)
