News roundup

Posted by Jeffrey Lee on 15:53, 17/2/2004 | ,

Here's a brief roundup of the Acorn games news from over the past few months...

3 new RISC OS games on the way

Last month, Gavin Smith announced on his recently launched news site that he is leading a project team to develop 3 new multi-platform games. The games will form a series, and will initially be released on RISC OS, Mac OS, and Windows. However no further information is available at this moment, and it's all very hush-hush.

Why did he mention it at this early stage then? Simple: he wants some help on the project, in the form of budding graphics artists. To quote Gavin:

"We are looking for accomplished artists, especially those that have previously worked with any type of game. The artist must be flexible, be contactable on a regular basis and be able to work in a professional manner."

Does this sound like you? Full details of how to sign up can be found at Acorn Evolution

Star Fighter 3000 certified Iyonix compatible

A patch for the Iyonix version of Star Fighter 3000 has been released, to fix problems encountered with the full screen display. The patch can be downloaded for free from Chris Bazley's Star Fighter site.

New version of NetHack for RISC OS

I've now ported NetHack version 3.4.3 to RISC OS, copies of which are available from this silly URL. This release builds on previous releases of mine, and after a good deal of play testing all known (RISC OS related) bugs have been fixed. It also has a handy return-to-desktop feature, allowing you to quickly suspend and resume your game.

VICE updated once again

Andreas Dehmels has updated his port of the Commodore emulator VICE yet again, this time to V1.14. This new version includes a handful of bugfixes, emulation of a new printer and disc drive type, as well as support for C64 and C128 mouse emulation. For those who are interested, you can now also cross-compile your own version of Vice using GCCSDK on Unix.

Grab a copy from Andreas' website.

That's all folks

But remember kids - To prevent me dribbling on about my own projects all the time and being forced to put disclamers up like some other sites, why not help out by writing some games of your own and letting us know when they or any others are updated? Go on, you know you want to...

Unregistered user Woo! Nice to see AcornArcade updated. :) I'll be interested to see how Gavin Smith's three games turn out.
