Case modding is all the rage when it comes to PCs, but we don't seem to hear much about it under RISC OS. After receiving
this URL to a RiscPC in a red box, there's a few Phoebe case projects kicking around [urls seem to be dead :( ], and with my own nutty ideas about what I want to do with my fileserver, I just wondered what people thought about all of this - are there many people modding RISC OS hardware? What would you like to see in a mod? Or do you think it's just a compete waste of time?

hrm,
I was considering using a Mini-ITX board with a small TFT to use for lan parties at uni :E, but I think ill either get a big case or use a courier for when i get my new pc, & get a 15" TFT for it (I've just spotted one model for under £250(inc VAT) from jungle.com which is a pretty damn good bargin, esp. as its a good screen :) )

Changing the case colour counts as a mod - but how are you going to do it? Powder coating looks good on a Phoebe case, but does that work on plastic?
As for the Thiushaven thing, well, it's a pretty red box, you don't need words ;) |

Powder coating I believe is a heat process, so in which case trying it on plastic isn't really such a good idea.
Unless you like that molten blob look ;-) |

Spray paint has the problem that it's too easily scratched off.
You can do it, but it's best to use a specialist automotive paint supplier (ie. not Halfords), and use Base and Clear paints (basically, a basic colour coat, followed by a lacquer). Then, you'll have a really deep, rich colour and an excellent finish. You can also T-Cut it (but I'd not do that; use something like Finesse-it) to make it really shiny.
Note: You can use Halford's paints, but I've had problems with the lacquer. |

Well, the pics were taken at the monthly meeting of the Dutch Acorner group, an independant club of ´Limburgse´ RISC OS enthusiasts in the very south of the Netherlands. Btw - thuishaven means homebase... they also built the RiscPC into a very small case for easy transfer. |

For Halfords, substitue 'any spray you can buy at your local Lax Power store' (so, Halfords, Les Smith). |

Yeh I wsas wondering what kind of paint.
Still you do vintage cars, all I've done is skirting boards and a rusty Vauxhall Nova so i wouldn't trust myself. |
