Hi,
I collect chess games for older computer systems, e.g. msx, cbm64, spectrum and also acorn systems. See http://www.vanheusden.com/cchess/collection/ for my collection.
Last week I bought "Cyber Chess for Acorn A3000/A5000/Archimedes" on e-bay. Now I would like to play it in an emulator. The last couple of hours I've been googling to find a disk-image of this software but could not find any. Does anyone have this sofware for me?

If I remember rightly, it's a 4th Dimension game, so probably not currently part of the JASPP preservation software library.
I believe the game can be bought new from APDL, but I don't know if they offer emulator images - I'm guessing not, but Dave posts to this forum sometimes, so...
Other Acorn chess games of note include David Pilling's Chess2 which AFAIK is the best in terms of quality of AI opponent, although it was a bit of a tussle at the time. I think MicroPower did a 3D chess game too. |

Hmmm, jaspp.org.uk has been taken over by domain stealers?
If I buy one of these usb floppy drives, will I be able to image the disk on my linux system? |

No, a) imaging adfs discs on linux needs a real floppy drive (well real floppy drive controller). b) Most 4th dimension games are copy proected and cannot be imaged under linux using the trad method anyway. |

I couldn't see Cyber Chess on APDLs website, but Dave owns the rights to 4D stuff now so he may be able to help. |

There are several Chess games for the Arc, including: Battle Chess (Krisalis Software) Chess3D (MicroPower) Cyber Chess (The Fourth Dimension) David Pilling's Chess (David Pilling) WIMP Chess (David Pilling)
The only one JASPP can release currently is Battle Chess.
Chess3D / WIMP Chess we've yet to see originals, Cyber Chess and David Pilling's Chess are partially complete.
If you're prepared to contribute scans of the Cyber Chess cover and manual, please drop me a mail: jon@jaspp.org.uk

http://www.kryoflux.com/ It works with RISC OS discs yes (including copy protected ones), but not running on RISC OS.
I believe the kyroflux is the method that the Centre for Computing History uses to back up discs. |

1.44 MB 3.5-inch Floppy Disk Drive (Preservation, 82 tracks) 1.44 MB 3.5-inch Floppy Disk Drive (Preservation, 84 tracks) |

Either will do, there's only one game that uses 83 tracks that we're aware of to date - and the protection on that doesn't work anyway!
You'll need to create your own format (see below) to create an ADF, you can also download the Kryoflux to APD converter to convert protected floppies from STREAM format to APD files, which was developed as part of JASPP by Daniel. ADF/APD will load with either ADFFS or the Arculator emulator.
Acorn E format floppy:
Image Type: MFM sector image Start Track: Default End Track: 80 Side Mode: Default Sector Size: 1024 Sector Count: Default Track Distance: 80 Tracks Target RPM: 300 Flippy Mode: Unticked
