Gimp-Print for RISC OS is available for download on MW Software's web site. The popular photo-real printer driver, originally developed for Linux, brings high-res, high-quality printing on a wide range of modern printers.
Martin explains that "The RISC OS release consists of three major components: The GemPrint printing layer that allows you to use Gimp-Print through the standard RISC OS printing system (!Printers), the multi-tasking GPDriver that is based on Gimp-Print and does the actual work of generating the data for the printer and the GPSetup application that allows you to control the advanced features of Gimp-Print. GPDriver is open source software that has been released under the GNU Public Licence."
The GPDriver sources can be freely downloaded but Gimp-Print and GPSetup are only available to those pledging donations. Details of how to donate money can be found here.
Initial worries over memory requirements prove to be less problematic for many printers: printing an A4 at highest quality on a HP DeskJet 690 requires 2.1MB, the Canon S450 needs 4.5MB, while the Epson Stylus Color 960 needs 60MB.

Memory also seems to be very cheap at the moment. 20 quid for a 64Meg upgrade transformed by RISC PC... |

It's very good, even though my printer is only partially supported. I can print at 600dpi, which although a little more grainy than the what I get from Windows, the colour balance is slightly better and it's noticeable how much less ink GIMP print uses. (Actually it makes you realise just how much the Windows drivers over-ink the page). No wonder I had to replace the carts so often! (Canon S750 if you're wondering) Cheers! |

IFEL need to advertise a bit, if they want custom, though. (A dedicated domain wouldn't hurt.) Their web page is at http://users.argonet.co.uk/ifel/ but hasn't been updated since Aug 2003; you have to phone them for current prices. |

Indeed! I really thought they'd either disappeared or gone to Windows land. Cheers! |

I bought some memory (64Meg) from ADPL last week. It cost less than 20 pounds and they were very efficient (David certainly knows his releases of the RISC PC motherboard and made sure I had the right version). MArk |
