Maarten Huizinga has sent word that he's released
MidiWorks, the midi sequencer based on his DMStudio software, as freeware. You can get your copy from his website,
http://cellar.orac.nl/mw/.
Even more interesting are his comments on Oregan in general and
Oregano in particular. Choice examples include "
I saw programmers come and go, in search of more reliable jobs. Oregan never was keen to pay anybody... the company released Oregano which incorporated copy[righted] modules they have never paid me for.". And on
Oregano: "
The project was a disaster from the start...".
Heady stuff, and one wonders how long the web page will be available. So go get your copy of MidiWorks while you can folks!

Bad things about Oregan? Who is suprised?
Look at Oregan's history in the Acorn market.
I've heard the exact same comments from another Oregan ex-programmer.
Are we doomed?
No, because WebsterXL 2 will save the day. Yeah, right...

I have to admit that I've heard stuff about Oregan before - I knew the guys who used to do games for them, how long ago is that? - but I thought actually putting something so strongly worded on his website was worthy of note. |

I understand he was not the only person to be roughly handled by Oregan. |

Before speculating on any relation to the lateness of Oregano 2, you should note that there's no reference to *when* Maarten left Oregan.
Also, Oregan Developments [who do midiworks] & Oregan Networks [who do Oregano] are not the same company, although some staff did previously work for Oregan Developments (like Maarten). |

It would appear from his comments that the two companies are closely enough related to re-use code when it suits them. |

It appears that Maarten has made his point as you can no longer download !MidiWorks - luckily I made it within the window of opportunity. Verdict : not as good as !Anthem in dealing with some Midi files but I think I like its interface more. |

Any news on the Oregan issue? I've noticed ProSound and Cineworks have also been thrown into the Public Domain... what's going on? |
